i heart trentino

Sunset at Lake Molveno
Several amazing things have happened this week with Steve on his mini-holiday... other than spending so much time with our family of three - that, I suppose, is amazing thing number one. We found a sushi restaurant in Trento that surpassed all of my expectations by miles and miles which is such a surprise, for a Japanese restaurant in Europe. (Usually they're super pricey and far from authentic.) It was even better than the sushi we had the last time we were in Vancouver, and waaaay better than Ottawa's Genji Japanese Restaurant; Zen sushi was ah-maaaazing! So so good... and so good for lunch, with it's Monday to Friday mid-day menu. I had sushi, sashimi, salmon & avocado rolls, and salad and miso soup all for 12 euros - YUM! I can't wait to go back. AND on the very same day we found a store that is stocked full of baby and kiddie goods - second hand! We've asked and asked and had no luck; people here are either too well-off or too well-connected (family and friends) to need to frequent second-hand stores. So that was a lovely surprise, seeing as how we're going to have to buy Hendrik some new winter shoes and a snowsuit, and no thanks, I don't really want to shell out 100-plus euros for goods that he'll use for a few months, tops.

Lake Molveno in November... beautiful!
Okay, and on to what you're wondering about - the pictures? Aren't they GORG? Pah. Okay, yeah, it is ridiculously beautiful around here - storybook beautiful sometimes, and we've had a few amazing car trip drives - without any puke! - around Trentino and her, well, just sort of large rocky breathtaking Dolomite mountains. And lakes. We were wondering what to do yesterday afternoon after Steve's morning training and Steve looked at the map and said, "Hm, well, what do you think about taking a drive?" And he took us here to this lake, and the small town of Molveno. It was pretty chilly so we didn't stay long BUT we will definitely come back in the spring to picnic and throw rocks in the water. It was beautiful.

in Cavedago (?) - between Trento and Molveno

Mom and babe - I can't believe he's almost 1!
Today we went on yet another road trip and failed to take any pictures of more breathtaking mountains. We drove from Trento up to Cles, and then over to Bolzano where we had lunch and coffee and enjoyed the warm afternoon sun. Hendrik loved the big yellow slide in the riverside park there, and the swings were a hit too, as per usual. Steve is back to work tomorrow, so there will be no more car-trip adventures, not for a week or so at least. We've got a visitor coming on Tuesday and with a day and a half off (I think) on the weekend I'm sure we'll get back out there and see some more of this beautiful province. Our visitor is Shanti and I am SO pumped... it will be so good to see her and have a friend around... yay. She's coming from Yaroslavl, and I'm thinking that if I was her I'd be going home with a few extra suitcases of fresh pasta and bakery treats. Yum.
