awesome weekend in Kelowna!!

Wow... what a killer weekend! In the car on the ride home this morning a food analogy came to me - this weekend was like a realllllly good cobb salad - so many good parts, and all together just a completely delicious thing. We drove up to Kelowna for the Centre of Gravity deal - well, okay, it was really just for the volleyball part and funfunfun part, and it just so happened that the COG had a lot of other stuff going on, that we paid no mind to. There was basketball and dirt biking and wakeboarding and maybe some other stuff, but we were there for the vball and it was awesome! Jen and I didn't win any games BUT had a totally awesome time doing what we do, and Barb and Jo did well, and the trio-triline of fans (me, Jen, Sharms) provided key moral support, cheers and chilled, alcohol-free beverages to the most famous superstar athletes in the new land of Grosbergen. Griffin plus Osberg equals German accents and loud YAHS and slate gray official colours, plus much much more... it was too late to change our team name, or to monogram flags or anything at all on our fabulous team uniforms, but that doesn't mean it won't happen another year. Or day. Yup, anyways, so the vball was fun - HOT... man it was so hot. At least the tourney was on the water - there was a breeze and a small area for swimming (where a guy informed Griff that it was actually a big toilet - ew), so that helped things on the whole heat front - for us at least. The fires that are still all-consuming left a haze of smoke everywhere, and you could smell and see the firey billows.

Other parts that were good: the hotel was great, and right across the road from all goings-ons. Besides the fact that there were five of us sharing the room, and that one person had to either sleep on a bench fit for one of Snow White's dwarves or on the floor... it all worked out. The food was also great - but took a loooong time to pay and a looooong time to arrive - meh, whatever. Griff and I did some shopping on Sunday, and were super efficient in accomplishing a few missions: we bought cute dresses at American Apparel (and wore them out last night), bought vodka, bought Gatorade and water for the team, snuck the bevs back into the event and... I'm sure there was something else but not sure/not remembering. We watched the men's and women's finals which were both really good matches, people watched, and then had an improv dance party to a great reggae-ish band that came on just as we were leaving - it was a definite bliss moment of the weekend. We hit up Flashbacks last night and had an awesome time dancing and laughing and hanging out, and then had a less than awesome time waking up after not so many hours of sleep - can that count as my disclaimer must in case this blog doesn't make sense or is all over the place? Cool. The drive back wasn't so bad, and traffic didn't ever get too messy; I'm home in time to pack and do a few errands (and nap) before tomorrow morning's flight to Calgary. My all-over-the-place-ness continues - more on that tomorrow... for now - sleeeeep!!

dance party on the beach!!

a good group shot - at the end of a long and sunny day!
