verona +

Verona

My sister is here! She got in yesterday and we had a great day in Verona too, before back-roading it to the airport to pick her up. Earlier in the day we met up with Francesca, a girl that I worked with in Tokyo who is from Verona and home for the holidays; she took us to one of her favourite restaurants that just so happens to be right in front of the Madonna Verona statue in Piazza delle Erbe and it - the piazza, the fountain and the restaurant - was all incredible. Surprised? Are people thinking that my experience of Italy is full of hyberbolic exaggeration? The food the people the food the food the food... well no, it is not. It is amaaaazing! The food at last night's Trentino Volley Christmas party was also out of this world, but would you expect anything less from a Michelin-starred restaurant? Yes, Locanda Margon was beautiful, and we - with wine, champagne and a five-course meal sans baby - had a great time. By 11:00 I was so tired that I was approaching silliness, and it had nothing to do with the booze; I had to refrain from drinking too much because as a mom who doesn't do this kind of thing very often, I'm very out of staying-out-late shape. Ouf. Anyways! The past few days of food have been unreal and I haven't even said anything about the lasagna that Antonella gave us the other day. We had it for lunch (and dinner) today and Sarah was quite confident when she said that it is/was the best pasta she's ever had in her whole entire vita. I will definitely be asking for a tutorial... it was unreal.

A three-day road trip started for Steve today, with Trentino Volley headed for Poland to take on Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle (I think); they play on Thursday at 6:00, and you can catch the game here. We will miss him! And for now, that's it! Pics....
